Prohibited Items Policy

Overview

MapleMarket is committed to providing a safe, legal, and trustworthy marketplace for all users. The following items, services, and content are strictly prohibited on the Platform. This list is not exhaustive — we reserve the right to remove any listing that, in our sole judgment, violates applicable laws, our Terms of Service, or community standards.

Violations of this policy may result in immediate listing removal, account suspension or permanent termination, forfeiture of any fees paid, and referral to Canadian law enforcement agencies or other relevant authorities.

Illegal Goods and Controlled Substances

  • Illegal drugs, controlled substances, and narcotics of any kind
  • Drug paraphernalia, including items designed for the use, production, or distribution of controlled substances
  • Cannabis products not compliant with the Cannabis Act and applicable provincial regulations
  • Prescription medications and pharmaceuticals that require a prescription or are regulated by Health Canada
  • Counterfeit or unapproved pharmaceutical products
  • Precursor chemicals or raw materials used to manufacture controlled substances
  • Stolen property or goods known or suspected to have been obtained through illegal means
  • Counterfeit currency, financial instruments, or securities
  • Goods that violate Canadian import/export restrictions, customs regulations, or trade sanctions
  • Goods subject to embargoes or restricted by international trade agreements

Weapons, Firearms, and Dangerous Items

  • Prohibited firearms, restricted firearms without proper documentation, and all firearms components or parts classified as prohibited under the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Ammunition, cartridges, and reloading components
  • Explosive devices, materials, or components, including fireworks in jurisdictions where sale is restricted
  • Prohibited weapons including brass knuckles, switchblades, butterfly knives, throwing stars, and any weapon designated as prohibited under Canadian law
  • Silencers, suppressors, and illegal weapon modifications
  • Tasers, stun guns, and similar electroshock weapons where prohibited by provincial law
  • Military-grade equipment, body armour (where restricted), and tactical gear designed for combat
  • Instructions or blueprints for manufacturing weapons, explosives, or destructive devices

Adult Content and Sexual Services

  • Sexually explicit materials, images, or videos
  • Adult entertainment services, escort services, or solicitation of sexual services
  • Intimate products marketed in a sexually explicit manner
  • Any content depicting, exploiting, or endangering minors (individuals under 18 years of age) — this will be immediately reported to law enforcement and the Canadian Centre for Child Protection
  • Services or content related to human trafficking, forced labour, or sexual exploitation

Counterfeit and Fraudulent Items

  • Counterfeit products, knockoffs, or unauthorized replicas of designer goods, branded products, or trademarked items
  • Items described as "inspired by," "replica," or similar terms intended to circumvent trademark protections
  • Items with removed, altered, or defaced serial numbers, VIN numbers, or other identifying markings
  • Forged documents, identification cards, diplomas, licences, or certificates
  • Fraudulently obtained, stolen, or cloned gift cards, vouchers, loyalty points, or reward credits
  • Pirated software, media, or digital content that violates copyright law
  • Unauthorized copies of proprietary materials, training courses, or subscription content

Hate, Extremism, and Offensive Content

  • Items or content that promote, incite, or glorify hatred, violence, discrimination, or terrorism against any person or group based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, sexual orientation, disability, or any other protected characteristic
  • Symbols, memorabilia, literature, or propaganda associated with hate groups, terrorist organizations, or extremist movements
  • Content that promotes, encourages, or provides instructions for criminal activity or violence

Unsafe, Recalled, and Regulated Products

  • Products recalled by Health Canada, Transport Canada, or any other Canadian regulatory authority
  • Consumer products that do not meet Canadian safety standards, labelling requirements, or certification requirements
  • Unauthorized, unregistered, or counterfeit medical devices
  • Products making unsubstantiated health claims or marketed as treatments or cures without Health Canada approval
  • Hazardous materials, including asbestos-containing products, lead-based paint, unapproved pesticides, and toxic chemicals
  • Automotive parts or safety equipment that do not meet Transport Canada standards
  • Infant and child products that do not comply with current Canadian safety regulations

Animals and Wildlife

  • Endangered or threatened species, or any part or product derived from them, as protected under the Species at Risk Act and the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
  • Wild animals captured, possessed, or sold in violation of federal or provincial wildlife laws
  • Animal fighting equipment, training materials, or any items designed for animal cruelty
  • Ivory, rhinoceros horn, and other products banned under international wildlife trade agreements
  • Live animals, unless in compliance with all applicable provincial and municipal regulations governing the sale of animals

Personal Data and Privacy Violations

  • Databases, lists, or collections of personal information (names, email addresses, phone numbers, financial information) about individuals
  • Tools, software, or services designed to harvest, scrape, or collect personal information without consent
  • Stolen account credentials, login information, or access codes
  • Spyware, stalkerware, keyloggers, or surveillance equipment marketed for illegal monitoring
  • Hacking tools, exploit kits, or services designed to gain unauthorized access to computer systems or networks

Prohibited Services

  • Any service that is illegal under Canadian federal or provincial law
  • Escort services, solicitation, or any service involving sexual activity
  • Gambling services not authorized by a provincial gaming authority
  • Pyramid schemes, multi-level marketing recruitment, or Ponzi schemes
  • Money laundering, currency exchange, or unlicensed money service business operations
  • Academic fraud services, including essay writing, exam taking, or diploma mills
  • Services designed to circumvent laws, regulations, or platform policies
  • Identity fraud services, including fake reviews, fake followers, or social media manipulation

Financial Products and Currency

  • Securities, stocks, bonds, or investment instruments offered in violation of Canadian securities laws
  • Cryptocurrency mining equipment or services marketed with guaranteed returns
  • Unlicensed financial services, lending, or insurance products
  • Lottery tickets, raffle tickets, or sweepstakes entries (unless authorized by applicable law)

Scams and Deceptive Practices

  • Listings designed to defraud or deceive buyers, including bait-and-switch tactics
  • Advance fee fraud schemes where payment is requested before delivery of goods or services
  • Fake or non-existent rental property listings designed to collect deposits
  • Listings that request personal financial information (bank account details, credit card numbers, Social Insurance Numbers)
  • Any other listing or activity designed to defraud users

Enforcement

MapleMarket actively monitors listings and takes the following enforcement actions at our sole discretion:

  • Listing Removal: Prohibited listings will be removed without notice. Repeat offenders may have all listings removed
  • Account Suspension: Accounts associated with prohibited listings may be temporarily suspended pending review
  • Account Termination: Serious or repeated violations will result in permanent account termination
  • Law Enforcement Referral: We will report suspected criminal activity to the appropriate Canadian law enforcement agencies, including the RCMP, local police services, and specialized agencies such as the Canadian Centre for Child Protection
  • Information Preservation: We may preserve and disclose account information and content in response to valid legal requests from law enforcement

Reporting Prohibited Listings

If you encounter a listing that you believe violates this policy, please report it immediately:

  • Use the "Report this listing" button available on every listing page
  • Contact us at support@maplemarketapp.com with the listing URL and a description of the violation
  • For urgent matters involving immediate safety risks or criminal activity, contact your local police service directly

We review all reports as promptly as reasonably possible and cooperate fully with Canadian law enforcement agencies. We appreciate your help in keeping MapleMarket safe for all users.
